Last weekend I went to Rathtrevor beach in Parksville with the family. When we arived the tide was on it's way out and there wasn't alot of people round so I thought this was going to be great. The beach looked nice and hard and about 3/4 to a mile long. The wind was blowing about 8 to 10 knots so I set up the 6.9 and off I went. When I got out to the sand that looked nice and hard I found that it wasnt hard at all, even if i stood on it I sank in about two inches which meant that if I wanted to do any respectable speeds I would have to size up to over come the drag. The beach is a big cresent and although the wind was blowing it seemed like it could make up its mind which direction it wanted to blow, which with the soft sand made it difficult to get any really good runs in. after about an hour of buggying the crowds started to come and I found myself crowded to the one side of the beach where it was more rocky, the kind with little baricals on it so I so I didnt want to do any power slides for fear of cutting my tires. After doing that for a short while I gave up and packed up my gear. There was alot of interest in the buggy though, and I found myself talking to a group of guys who came over for a look. After a while I got out the 1.5 and tried to teach the wife how to fly in the hopes that she will be able to get in a buggy one day soon, but I think it'll be a while before that happens.
All in all a good day at the beach but not so good for kiteing. I dont think I will make the effort to go back there to buggy, just too expensive with the ferry and all.
